LOLA Architecture was engaged by YMCA to design staff bunkhouses (Hector & Bowfort) that embody the camp’s values of honesty, caring, respect, responsibility, and inclusivity. Both Hector and Bowfort bunk houses will mirror these values with thoughtful design elements that ensure a welcoming, functional space. The design incorporates safety, accessibility, and environmental sensitivity, while enhancing the camp’s natural beauty.

The bunk houses are designed to blend seamlessly with their surroundings, featuring a pitched roof for snow protection and a large front deck for social gatherings. The back deck provides access to an outdoor fire pit, and an adjacent storage area offers space for outdoor chairs and accessories. The interior layout positions common areas near the entrance, fostering a communal atmosphere, while bedrooms are situated towards the rear for privacy. Large windows in the living spaces ensure that occupants can enjoy the views and natural light.

Interior design merges rustic charm with modern amenities. Durable vinyl flooring and wainscoting in common areas and bedrooms offer warmth and resilience. Full-height solid phenolic partitions in the bathrooms ensure privacy and durability in a gender-neutral environment. Bedrooms feature tack-able surfaces for personalization, creating a home-like atmosphere that balances comfort and functionality.
